Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) In Young Women Causes and Consequences

Pcos is very common condition in young women of the productive age group, affecting 6% to 12% of women. It is also one of the most common causes of female infertility. It is increasing due to sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise and eating unhealthy leading to obesity and hormonal disturbance in young women. Through sometimes body constitution despite being slim, one can have Pcos.

Women with Pcos are often insulin resistant. They also have higher levels of androgens (male hormones that female also have) which can stop eggs from being released (ovulation) and cause irregular period, acne, thinning scalp hair and excess hair growth on the face and body.Pcos women can develop serious health issues, more so if obese like diabetes, heart problem ,hypertension ,high cholesterol ,sleep apnoea ,stroke ,hypothyroidism ,high prolactin levels, depression ,anxiety ,etc.

The exact cause of PCOS is unknown, but hormonal imbalance leads to increased weight and insulin resistance, irregular, menstruation, anoulation and high androgen levels, and abnormal hair growth pattern.

Treatment: This includes a combination of individualized measures, like diet control, exercise, and weight reduction, avoiding fast food, a healthy diet and medication.
